Burgos Book Review

The Gun (Bluford, #6)The Gun by Paul Langan

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My book review is on the book The Gun. The author of the book is Paul Langan which is also the author of the book Bothers and Arms which I read just recently. The book was publicated on January 1st 2001. The genre of the book is young adult realistic teen fiction and was not awarded any awards or acclaims. The book contians 123 pages and I read the book in about three to four weeks. The characters in the book are Tyray, Bones, Lark, Darrel, Warren, Mr. Mitchill, Tyray's mother and father. The Setting of the Book is set at Bluford High and Tyray's home.

The books setting is set at Tyray's house and bluford high. The polotagonist in the story is Darrel Mercer, Mr.Mitchill, Lark, and Tyrays mother. Some choices that Tyray had to make was to make a change and take a different road in life by not shooting Darrel or himself. The major conflict of the story was that Tyray did not know how to make the reight choices for himself and did not ask anyone for help or advice when he had prolems. The antagonist in the book was Tyray and Bones. Other supporting characters such as Lark, Warren, Tyrays mother and father influenced more of Tyray's behavoir.

The theme of the book is to deal with your problems in a positive way because in the end you will bery youself in problems you created to solve your first problem. Basicly the authors message for readser is to deal with your problems and ask for help if nessesary. Characters such as Tyray for instance really help readers understand the message of the book because of the misgiudenc that Tyray was influenced his decsion making got him into deeper trouble. Tyray's actions and decision making helped me as a reader better understan the message of the story.

Personally I did like the book it was surpriseing in words that I did not expect. The book had good moments and I really liked the end. Fortunatly the book did have some decent vocabulary but I felt that the word choice could have been better. Never the less instead of the vocabulary problem the book was very good.

The Gun had me wanting to read more and more. The theme of the book is great and is only 123 pages so is very short to read for a good time. The message that the author sends the reader is a good one and I believe that alot of kids my age can learn alot of valuable lessons from the book. The Gun is a great book and I would recomend it to other readers.

Thank You.......

Brothers in Arms (Bluford, #9)Brothers in Arms by Paul Langan

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

My first book reveiw is a Brother and arms. The author of the book is Paul Langan. The date this book was publicated was 2004.The genre of the book is nonfiction and the book has won no awards. There are 156 pages in this book and it has taken me one month to read Brothers and Arms. The characters in the book are Matin Luna,Martins mother,Frankie,Steve,Eric,Teresa, and Ms Mitchell. The setting of the story is mostly taken place in bluford high were Martin goes to school.

The loction of the story is taken placc uptown of martins city in a new neighborhood. The protagonist of the book is Martin. The choices that Martin has to make is to has his revenge on the person that how killed his little brother or leave his freaind Frakie's gang. The conflict of the story is that Martin has to make a desicion on killing the person who killed his little brother or leave his gang behind to start a new life on the right path. The antagonist is Frankie the leader of gang Martin is in.

The theme the the story presents is a young man that is tyring to adjust to his new settings and is torn on making a desicion as an act of revenge. The message that the author is tying to send is to do the right thing and always think twice before befor making bad desicion. The characters help convey the message of the story because each character understands what martin is going through and is pressuring Martin to doing what they think is right. The characters are important because they help the reader better understand the story. There actions help you know their part and their reason they are doing what they are doing.

Personally I do think the book was O.k .The story's conceopt was grate and its plot kinda of delivered. The book should be raed by 8th and 9th graders only. The book is more for teenager and is not as bold as I intended it to be. To me the plot did not fully capture a young teenager making the desicion of a lifetime by killing the same person the killed his own little brother. Basically the story was O.k for a school project but not to be read on a serous level.

Finally Brothers and Arms is a great book report book. Reading the stuggles and triumph's that Martin goes through will definatly capture your attention. The story gives great examples of how being positivly influenecd by past events can change your perspective in life and your desicions. So if you are into inner city dramas and a postive outcome I definatly recomend this book to you. Thank You.
